la flor de la vida

(Trinitaria)

March 8th - April 5th

TW Fine Art is pleased to announce la flor de la vida (Trinitaria), a solo exhibition of works by Lulu Varona. The exhibition will open at TW Fine Art in West Palm Beach, with an opening reception on Friday, March 14th, from 5-8 PM.

Trinitaria, takes its name from the resilient flowering plant that grows wildly across Puerto Rico, one that climbs fences, fills gardens, and grows wildly along the edges of roads—flourishing in cultivated and untamed spaces alike. At the center of the exhibition are two trinitaria embroidered textile pieces—Trinitaria Naranja and Trinitaria Rosada—where the flower takes on vibrant, pixelated forms. Achieving the translucency of the petals on fabric is an intentional decision that highlights her mastery of the medium.

In Lulu Varona’s textiles, pixels become stitches, a translation from the screen to the physical, from the instant to the slow labor of embroidery. In her self-portrait, the act of disassembling and reordering her image mirrors the breakdown and reconstruction of identity in the digital age. Her large-scale quilted sky, composed of countless stitched fragments, operates like a zoomed-in pixel grid—each unit holding meaning, yet unreadable in isolation.” - Sofía Reeser del Rio, Curator and Writer

Varona has exhibited at Embajada, San Juan, Puerto Rico (2024), Charles Moffet Gallery, New York (2023), Whitney Museum, New York (2022), amongst other solo and group exhibitions.
