Beth Cullen Kerridge
Hard Rock | Heavy Metal
January 25th - February 22nd
TW Fine Art is pleased to announce HARD ROCK | HEAVY METAL, a solo exhibition featuring work by UK sculptor Beth Cullen Kerridge. The exhibition will open at TW Fine Art in West Palm Beach. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 25th, from 4-7pm.
As the name suggests, the exhibition showcases a range of works realized in bronze and marble. The sculptures are inspired by the idea of traditional masculine and feminine roles, and the struggle each gender faces within the challenges of societal expectations; be they corporate or domestic.
Beth Cullen Kerridge's sculptural practice is deeply rooted in a profound engagement with materiality, creating works that are both tactile and conceptually charged. Her sculptures often engage with the interplay of natural and industrial materials, where organic forms are juxtaposed with industrial processes, reflecting the tension between the human and the natural world. In Cullen Kerridge's hands, materials are not passive; they become active participants in the conceptual and aesthetic dimensions of the work. The textures, surfaces, and forms of the materials speak to a quiet, meditative process of making, where each element contributes to a larger narrative about the human experience, the passage of time, and our relationship to the world around us.
Cullen Kerridge comments: “These works symbolize the hard work and the beauty of the human experience. They recognize the daily obstacles everyone - male or female - must overcome, and they celebrate the beauty and resilience we all find within us to do just that.”
Cullen Kerridge trained in Fine Art at Liverpool John Moore’s Art College, before studying Bronze at the Royal College of Art. She honed her craft working with sculptors including Edwardo Paolozzi, before going on to work for and be mentored by, the great modernist sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. With Caro, she worked on large scale projects for Sir Norman Foster and Richard Rodgers, including London’s Millennium Bridge and the Tate Modern. In 2010, Beth travelled to Carrara, Italy to study marble carving with local artisans and in 2017, she received the Global Art Award for Sculpture for her Dhow Sail commission for the Dubai Opera House.
Beyond the artist studio, Beth has also been integral to the success of her partner, renowned British chef, Tom Kerridge. It was from the proceeds of an early sculpture commission that Beth and Tom were able to buy their first restaurant, the Hand and Flowers, the only pub in the UK with two Michelin stars.
